Starting July 2018, Optiva Media took responsibility of all metadata management and video processing operations for Orange TV, the 700K+ subs TV service of Orange Spain. One of the biggest challenges with operating this fast-growing service was to set up an efficient and scalable encoding + quality check chain for the entire VoD content offer. Optiva Media designed and integrated a wholly cloudified AWS-based technological infrastructure comprising the following elements:
The solution pioneered the usage of TITAN File as a cloud-based service relying on virtualized Windows boxes. The system was configured and preset to output different encoding profiles for both HD and 4K formats, using Smooth Streaming and MPEG-DASH adaptive streaming technologies. A similar virtualization approach was followed to integrate QC capabilities by BATON, including detection of defects such as pixelization, frame freezing and audio clipping. MediaCode’s flexible workflow definition technology allows the operations team to easily choose, according to the type of content being processed, from various predefined workflow schemes with different encoding profiles, subtitle embedding options and quality checking stages both before and after encoding.
Since operations began up to mid-2019, video processing demand has grown from roughly 1000 content entries per month to a current volume of 1800+. Attaining this increased capacity, or even coping with high-load peaks, is trivial thanks to the fully dynamic nature of the cloud-based system.
