Optiva Media R&I participates in the SDGine program kick-off

Develop transformative technologies for healthy people and cities

On Friday 6th of November, Optiva Media R&I took part in the virtual kick-off meeting of the “SDGine programme” organized by the UPM to attract outstanding talent in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SDGine is a 60-month research and innovation action to develop transformative technologies aimed at healthy people and cities. The program is a H2020 COFUND project funded by the European Union under a Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement in which 12 Industrial Doctorates will develop technologies and tools related to climate change and societal transformations in urban contexts. The action, with an overall budget of 1,952,640.00€, will run from 1st of October 2020 to 31st of September 2025.

The researchers will have the chance to complete (with a 36-month employment contract) a PhD degree co-supervised by a UPM professor and a reporting officer from one of the companies that are participating in this project.

Optiva Media engages in the field of DTV, contributing with our expertise in advanced recommendation frameworks to create a ‘safe’ TV experience, thereby adding to the wellbeing of people with mental conditions. The following are Optiva Media Phd topics:

  1. AI-based conceptual content modelling and advanced user-profiling for an emotionally safe TV experience
  2. Contribution to mental wellbeing at home via smart and hyper-personalised content-based recommendations

From Optiva Media R&I, we want to avoid the anxiety that a person can experience while searching for multimedia. Studies have shown that the average person spends 23 minutes per day trying to find something to watch on broadcast TV and 30 minutes in VOD services. This waste of time alone, with the wrong choice of content, could lead to anxiety in people with emotional disabilities. In this doctoral thesis we address the problems involved with AI-based conceptual content modelling and advanced user-profiling enhanced by IoT. The desired outcome is to create a safe and convenient experience for content consumption while at home.
